Christ Disputing with Doctors

  • Etching on cream laid paper with large margins. Signed and dated in the plate, Rembrandt f. 1652, lower left. Arms of Amsterdam variant watermark (Ash and Fletcher, Chapter 1) dating the paper to the 1650's.
  • Biorklund Barnard's second state of three, White and Boon's second state of three, and Nowell Eusticke's second state of three, after the appearance of the rust spots along the borders.
  • A seventeenth century impression.
  • Nowell Eusticke refers to this impression as "not common". 
  • Plate no longer in existence.
  • According to Schwartz, this is an illustration from the New Testament, Luke 2:41-52.
