Joseph Telling His Dreams

  • Etching on thin laid paper, trimmed to the platemark. Signed and dated in the plate lower left, Rembrandt f. 1638, in the block beneath the seated man (Jacob).
  • Biorklund Barnard's fourth state of four, White and Boon's third state of three, and Nowell Eusticke's third state of five after the space between Joseph's left arm and woman's face is covered with fine cross hatching.
  • An impression as issued by P.F. Basan (1785-1797) showing the additional shading added to the heads in the background, on the curtain and door behind the turbaned man on the right, and on Jacob's legs.
  • According to Schwartz, this is an illustration from the Old Testament, Genesis 37:1-11.
