  • Etching on thick laid paper with large margins. Signed, Rembrandt, upper left.
  • Biorklund Barnard's second state of two, and Nowell Eusticke's second state of three, after the signature is scratched in with double outline and the short line appears at right angles to the top line of the diagonal left to right shading at left, 1/4" to the left of the cap.
  • According to Nowell Eusticke, an intermediate second state impression as issued by H.L. Basan (1807) after the appearance of the diagonal right to left slipt stroke starting from the left eyebrow.
  • It is interesting to note that the original signature according to Biorklund Barnard and Nowell Eusticke reads "Rembrandt f." while White and Boon makes reference to the original signature as "Rembrandt f. c. 1642".
